The Athens County VNA of Athens, Ohio, is a rural visiting nurse association founded in 1982. Its young age reflects a commonality of most home care nursing services. Failures in the prospective payment of hospital care force many hospitals to discharge patients much earlier. This background accounts for the remarkable increase in the need for the services of home care agencies and the establishment of the Athens County VNA reflects such a need.
